Solved! Get answer or ask a different Question 1298

Square root of 3 divided by 3 = ##sqrt3/3##

Squaring top and bottom gives ##(sqrt3)^2/3^2## = ##3/9## = ##1/3##

To rationalise, remember that one may change the expression, in this case a fraction, whilst not changing the ratio. i.e. whatever one does to the numerator – the top bit – , one also has to do to the denominator – the bottom bit. Furthermore, one should not forget that a square root has two solutions – one negative and the other, positive. Therefore, the solution to this question is, plus or minus one third.
